The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has opened registration for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates, 2020 – Second Series with a note to candidates to check the examination towns’ list before registering.
According to the advert for the examination signed by the Council’s Head of National Office (HNO), Mr. Patrick Areghan, 36 subjects would be examined during the examination, which does not have a fixed date yet because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Usually, the examination holds between August and October every year.
The online registration is open until July 31, 2020.
However, Areghan warned interested candidates to find out if their preferred location would be listed as examination towns as only urban centres would be used for the examination.
“The examination will be urban-based and will be conducted at a period to be announced in due course. Thirty-Six (36) subjects would be available for the examination. Intending candidates are advised to visit the Council’s corporate website – www.waecnigeria.org to confirm available examination towns and subjects before obtaining the registration PIN,” he said.
Lagos has the highest number of examination towns listed – 27 – followed by Ogun with 16, and Rivers State with 13.
While registration for the examination cost N13,950, those who register after the deadline as ‘walk-in candidates, would have to pay N30,500 to write the examination as long as they register a day before the paper they desire to write.
“Candidates, who wish to register for the examination after the close of entries may be accommodated as ‘Walk-in-Candidates’, provided they register not less than twenty four hours to the scheduled time of the paper(s) they intend to write. The ‘Walk-in-Candidates’ fee is N30, 500.00 only.
The HNO said once candidates access the site, they must conclude their registration within two weeks.

The WEST AFRICAN SENIOR SCHOOL CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION (WASSCE) FOR PRIVATE CANDIDATES, 2020 – SECOND SERIES
1. INTRODUCTION
This is to inform the general public and intending candidates that registration for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates, 2020 – Second Series has commenced.
The examination will be urban-based and will be conducted at a period to be announced in due course. Thirty-Six (36) subjects would be available for the examination. Intending candidates are advised to visit the Council’s corporate website – www.waecnigeria.org to confirm available examination towns and subjects before obtaining the registration PIN.
2. REGISTRATION FOR THE EXAMINATION
Registration for WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2020 – Second Series will be online. After obtaining the Registration PIN, candidates should log on to www.waeconline.org.ng for registration. Candidates should also note that the registration procedure has been designed to accommodate biometric features that will be used for validation at the examination centres.
3. REGISTRATION PERIOD
The registration period is from Wednesday, June 10 to Friday, July 31, 2020.
4. MODE OF PAYMENT
Candidates are expected to pay a registration fee of Thirteen Thousand, Nine Hundred and Fifty Naira (N13, 950) only, at branches of any of the following banks or any accredited agent and obtain the Registration PIN and Information VCD:

In addition, candidates will be required to pay five hundred naira (N500.00) commission to the banks/accredited agents.
5 WALK-IN-CANDIDATES
Candidates who wish to register for the examination after the close of entries may be accommodated as “Walk-in-Candidates”, provided they register not less than twenty four hours to the scheduled time of the paper(s) they intend to write. The “Walk-in-Candidates” fee is Thirty Thousand, Five hundred Naira (N30, 500.00) only.
6. CANDIDATES WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
Candidates with special needs will also register online like other candidates but they must clearly state their impairments e.g. visual, low vision, spastic, speech, hard to hear etc.
7. COMPLETION OF REGISTRATION
Candidates MUST conclude registration within two weeks of first access to the website during the registration period. They should ensure that their names, gender, passport photographs, dates of birth and subjects are correct. They are also to print the Admission Notice, as evidence of successful registration, which will serve as identification during the examination. The Result Checker PIN will also be on the Admission Notice.
The acceptable fingerprint Scanner is UareU digitalPersona fingerprint device.
8. GENERAL INFORMATION
(1) Candidates should view the Information VCD before they register for the examination.
(2) Candidates should note that registration fee is not refundable.
(3) Candidates should continue to check the website for the examination Timetable.
(4) Entries must be uploaded with passport photographs captured with digital cameras. The specification of the digital Camera should be Microsoft HD 3000. The passport photographs must be of good quality BLACK & WHITE OR COLOUR (JPEG File only, 275 by 314 pixels with 72 dbi resolution) and with a CONTRASTING BACKGROUND. There must be no obstructive items. Please note that the submission of a defaced or a poor quality photograph by a candidate would automatically invalidate the entry of the candidate. (5) Candidates should study the Regulations and Syllabuses for the examination which they can download from WAEC website (www.waeconline.org.ng) using the Registration PIN.
(6) Candidates must go to examination halls in mufti and without arms. No professional uniform of any kind will be allowed in the examination halls.
(7) The entire results of candidates who sit the examination in more than one centre will be cancelled.
(8) Smoking is not allowed in the examination hall.
(9) Any candidate that comes into the examination hall with mobile phone(s) and /or any other electronic gadget(s) will have his or her entire results cancelled.
(10) Candidates must ensure that their entries are correctly completed before uploading as the Council will not be held responsible for errors in candidates’ particulars. Request for amendments will NOT BE entertained on any information which a candidate voluntarily gives at the point of registration,
(11) Candidates must come into the examination hall with their original Admission Notice.
(12) Candidates who engage in examination malpractice will not only have their results cancelled, but may be prosecuted.
(13) Candidates must ensure they provide valid email and telephone number(s) during registration.
(14) All candidates MUST be prepared to observe all COVID-19 Regulations.
