Delighted with the addition of five Youth League players to the Golden Eaglets is Gbenga Elegbeleye, the chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League.
Among these players are a trio from Remo Stars – Oreoluwa Agbenla, Muiz Oladimeji, and Daniel Arierhi, alongside Rangers’ goalkeeper Chinedu Chike and Edward Ochigbo from Sporting Lagos.
The Golden Eaglets are presently in Ghana participating in the West African Football Union (WAFU) qualifiers for the Africa U-17 Nations Cup.
Elegbeleye has emphasized to these five players the importance of being exemplary representatives of the NPFL U17 Youth League by performing exceptionally well to aid Nigeria in securing a spot in the CAF Cadet Championship and ultimately the FIFA U-17 Finals.
He highlighted that similar to any other business, football requires a consistent influx of talent to stay competitive in the market.
Expressing his views to NPFL media, he stated, “The establishment of the Youth League for our Clubs in the NPFL has evidently helped the Football Federation and their Coaches in talent scouting.”
“Mandated by the NFF Club Licensing Regulations, the Youth League offers various benefits, such as furnishing clubs with a reliable and immediate pool of replacements for aging players or those departing to other clubs,” he added.
“The NPFL Board is gratified by the outcomes of the inaugural NPFL Youth League and eagerly anticipates witnessing these young talents not only excel in regular club football but also progress to represent Nigeria in the U-20 and Olympic squads.”
