The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has sought the collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force in its drive to end the menace of examination malpractices.
This was conveyed during a courtesy visit to the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu at the Force Headquarters, Abuja earlier this week, Tuesday August 8, 2020.
The Head of National Office (HNO) at WAEC, Mr Patrick Areghan led his team on the courtesy visit.
WAEC image maker, Mr Demainus Ojijeogu informed VERACITYDESK.COM.NG that the HNO wanted the police to assist in tracking, arresting, parading and prosecuting of all the perpetrators.
This includes supervisors, invigilators and students suspected to have been involved in various forms of examination malpractices in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, 2020.
According to him, 13 suspects have since been nabbed since the commencement of the exam that began a month ago. The WASSCE is expected to end this weekend.
The WAEC chief also wanted the police to help fight against “rogue websites” using the Nigeria Police Cyber Crime Unit and other resources at its disposal.
“The coming weeks will witness a strong collaboration between the Council and the Nigeria Police Force,” he added.
