A raging fire has gutted shops under the Apongbon section of the Eko Bridge in Lagos State.
The fire incident which started at around 7am on Wednesday caused gridlock and crippled commercial activities around the Lagos Island area of the state.
The cause of the fire incident is yet to be ascertained and no life was lost, although goods worth millions of naira were destroyed by the inferno.
The Eko bridge which has been badly affected due to intense impact of the inferno has been blocked and cordoned-off for now to prevent any possible loss of lives as Motorists have been urged to ply alternative routes.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) announced via a tweet that the fire outbreak has resulted in the slow movement of motorists and advised that they use alternative routes.
“Motorists who are yet to connect Eko Bridge are advised to use alternative routes such as Third-Mainland Bridge and Carter Bridge.
“Emergency Responding Agencies like Fire Service, LASEMA, LASTMA are all on ground.”
The emergency workers have also urged traders trying to salvage their goods from under the bridge to leave for their safety.
