The Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) on Thursday (December 20, 2018) publicly announced Dr Babatope Michael Agbeyo as its new National Patron judging from his antecedents as a philanthropist whose consistent passion is to meet the needs of the people without expecting pecuniary gains.
Veteran actor and one of the leaders of the association, Prince Jide Kosoko made the announcement during the 2018 edition of End-of-the-year party and staff Awards of Cornfield Group which took place at D’Podium, Ikeja, Lagos.
Dr Agbeyo is the Chairman, Cornfield Group, which comprises Media Concepts International Limited, Botosoft Technologies Limited, Cornfield Transnational Limited and FOAM Studio Nigeria Limited.
Speaking on the big stage amidst glamour, pump and pageantry, Prince Kosoko in company of the newly elected executives stated:
‘‘Dr Tope Agbeyo is a man indeed. We make bold to say that this man standing before you is a member of our constituency and he even said this himself, because he actually started as a certificated theatre practitioner. And as big as he is today, he has refused to leave us alone, he is always behind us, he is a pillar of our industry so to say, and we’ll always appreciate him and we’ll always want to give him his honour at all time. This time in 2017, TAMPAN named him MAN OF THE YEAR, the very first time we had the event. Why? Because he has contributed silently and significantly to our association a great deal, we honestly hold him in high esteem.
Here we are in 2018; TAMPAN however thought it prudent to continue to have him, and God will continue to preserve him for us. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, the National President, Otunba Bolaji Amusan and the entire National Executive Council of TAMPAN, we unanimously announce you as the National Patron of our great association. The investiture and decoration will be coming up in February 2019. Please accept our deserving congratulations sir’’ Prince Kosoko said.
Agbeyo whilst reacting to the development expressed gratitude to God and TAMPAN for deeming it necessary to consider him for such esteemed and rare honour, even as he assured them that he will not let them down.
Dr Agbeyo also used the occasion to celebrate Mrs Ireti Olubunmi Borishade who he described as his God-sent destiny helper , who made him realize his dreams.
‘‘Our first project was in 2005, we needed like N35 Million to execute it and I had nothing. The only thing I had then was my God-given talent. I had to start looking for money. It was Mrs ireti Olubunmi Borishade who staked her house as collateral. Her thank you gift is who I am today. I am not here to preach but I say this tonight to serve as an inspiration to others who may be thinking all hope are lost. We all have talents, if you discover yourself and the talent in you, there is no way help will not come, and try not to miss the opportunity when it offers itself, once you fail to show seriousness, you may never get it right again. This night ultimately is to celebrate God for His mercy, love and benevolence, I return all glory and honour to him.’’ Agbeyo said.
