The okada ban which was made effective Feb 1st, 2020 has generated a lot of controversy with politicians such as Jimi Agbaje condemning the move since the government was yet to provide an alternative means of transportation.

However, Shina Peller said the move was a welcome development as the government was committed to securing lives in the state.

He stated that Okada Riders have total disregard for traffic rules and regulations and so many people have become victims of their lawlessness.

One of the victims include his mother-in-law’s brother who died in a fatal motorcycle accident.

The Quilox club owner turned Lawmaker also noted that okada was an instrument of crime as many riders commit robbery attacks using motorcycles.

Shina Peller who is now a member of the Federal House of Representatives made this known via his verified Twitter account

“We also have to remember there are two sides to a coin… Lagos State Govt has a responsibility to ensure the security and safety of lives of Lagosians. There are reports of incessant lack of regard for the traffic laws in the state by motorcycles and tricycles.”

“This has apparently resulted in the preventable loss of life & property which has necessitated the Traffic Reforms. Whilst the number of fatal accidents have been on the rise, what is also undeniable is the rise in the rate of crime facilitated by the motorcycles.”

“Whilst some might say I am “talking out of both sides of my mouth”, please spare a thought for those who have lost a relative or friend to an Okada accident. One of such is my MIL who lost her dear brother in a fatal Okada accident. May his soul rest in peace.”
