Policemen attached to Itire Police Division of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two suspected members of a robbery gang that specialised in hijacking trucks loaded with petroleum products, along the Apapa /Oshodi expressway.
The suspects: Charles Obllomo, 37 and Osita Onyeka, 35, residents of Boundary, Ajegunle and Orile areas of Lagos respectively, were intercepted at about 7 pm, yesterday, while escaping with a hijacked DAF 85 Tanker with registration number Gage 743 XN loaded with 40,000 litres of Petroleum Products.
Narrating how his truck was hijacked, the 42-year-old driver, Muhammadu Mande, revealed that he had finished loading at Swift Depot, Apapa and had embarked on his journey to Kontagora, Niger State, in the company of the conductor, Lawali Usman, when they were accosted.
According to the Kebbi State-born driver, ” On getting to a bad portion of the road at Mile 2, four men in military uniform stopped me and demanded to know the products we were carrying. They ordered my conductor and I out of the truck and ushered us into a red Toyota Corolla car.
Two of them took possession of the truck, while my conductor and I were sandwiched by the four men in military uniform in the Toyota Corolla. The truck was driving behind the Toyota Corolla and heading to an unknown destination before it was intercepted by the Police. ”
