The British royal family has released a new portrait that shows Queen Elizabeth standing with her son, grandson and great-grandson, showing four generations of the monarchy.
Buckingham Palace released the portrait of the 93-year-old queen, along with Princes Charles, 71, William, 37, and 6-year-old George on Friday to mark the beginning of a new decade.
It is only the second time that a photograph of the queen, along with the next three in line for the throne, has been released. Both photos were taken by Ranald Mackechnie.
The photo was taken in the palace’s Throne Room, according to a statement.
A previously released photo, though not an official portrait, showed the four preparing Christmas pudding, a favorite charity project of the queen’s.
The royal family last released an official portrait of four generations in 1894. At that time, the Queen’s great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria was photographed with her son, future King Edward VII, her grandson, future King George V, and her great-grandson, future King Edward VIII.
