It Would Be Hypocritical & Suicidal For Any Yoruba APC Member To Contest Against Tinubu, Rotimi Makinde Declares

Former member of House of Reps, Hon. Rotimi Makinde has on Saturday, February 5, 2022 renewed his support for power shift to South-West in the 2023 Presidential poll, adding that it would be a sheer waste and as well suicidal for any APC member of Yoruba extraction to contest against Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Makinde who represented Ife Federal Constituency in the 7th Assembly and a key member of SWAGA’23 made these remarks in a media chat he had with some selected journalists in Lagos.

“I have said it several times and at different fora that the South-West needs to approach 2023 in a more united manner and more so, presidential power needs to be shifted back to the South-West in 2023 and I haven’t shifted my ground on this, and let me also reiterate that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains our best bet candidate for the South-West region if we truly appreciate the fact that it’s not going to be a tea party contest and for us to produce a record that can translate to landslide victory for APC in the primary and come 2023.

However, it would be suicidal for anyone in our party of the Yoruba extraction to contest against Tinubu in clinching the APC ticket, such person would not only be on the bad side of history but he or she would simply be overheating the polity and go down as someone operating from devil’s workshop.” Makinde declared.

He stated further: “ You will recall that SWAGA’23 which I am a key member and of course a member of the Central Working Committee too, thought it right and wise to be on the side of Tinubu after much deliberation and unbiased analysis of several high profile politicians and having canvassed vigorously and convinced Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to throw his hat in the ring.

It would be unpatriotic for anyone in APC and from this region to start overheating the polity and act in a manner to cost us the desire to have Tinubu as our next President. Thankfully our leader has listened to our clarion call to run for President and this was a huge success for all those our parents, especially about 300 traditional rulers who visited SWAGA’23 team at various towns and cities. Therefore it would be immoral and distasteful for any political underdog to rock the boat with Asiwaju and I must sound a note of warning that South-West shouldn’t allow this opportunity to go off our hands. Asiwaju is our best bet.”

Makinde added that the APC national leaders and stakeholders must respect the zoning of Presidency to the South in 2023 as a mark of respect for the silent agreement within the party at inception in 2013.

The Ife born politician maintained that Senator Bola Tinubu had helped a lot of people across the country, built bridges, made people achieve their purpose in various endeavors and capacities and that if these beneficiaries are sincere and grateful, they should be left with no choice but to join the core Progressives and throw their weights behind Asiwaju Bola Tinubu at a critical time like this .

Similarly, Makinde also used the occasion of the media chat to advise other politicians scrambling for the APC presidential ticket to maintain a united front and give overwhelming support to Asiwaju so that the South-West zone won’t lose the ticket in 2023.
