EFCC Recovers 25 Exotic Cars After Arresting 37 Internet Fraudsters (Yahoo Boys)

About 37 suspected Internet Fraudsters were arrested in Owerri, the Imo State capital by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), South-east Zonal Office, on Wednesday.

Usman Imam, who is the zonal head, said the arrest followed a raid on some targeted residences in Okwu Urata, Aladinma and Egbu areas.

Speaking on the arrest, he stated that, the commission acted an intelligence report, about the flamboyant lifestyle of the suspects, with emphasis on the fact that they have no legitimate means of livelihood.

On the activities of the suspects, Mr. Imam said, the suspects reportedly specialise in defrauding victims, through the internet; revealing that, items such as computers, 25 exotic cars, which include several brands of Mercedez-Benz, Lexus, Toyota and expensive mobile phones, were recovered.

Concerning the measures that will be taken to curb the menace, Mr. Imman stated that, “It is true that no society has been able to totally eradicate crime, but we are ready at least to reduce it to the barest minimum and it appears that this cybercrime is one of the challenges of our time, which the EFCC is willing to face drastically,”

Still remaining startled at the activities of the suspects, he also said, “What is the business of a university student, a new graduate or youth corps member, looking for money to buy a car of N10 million? Obviously, this is rushing life and a collapse of our positive value system where people rarely want to start from a humble beginning,”
