Choice of Comrade Afolabi As NUPENG Gen. Sec. Is A Renaissance For Vibrant Unionism, Ajulo

Abuja based rights activist and constitutional legal luminary, Dr Kayode Ajulo has lauded the confirmation of Comrade Olawale Afolabi as the General Secretary of Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) by the National Administrative Council of the Union.

Ajulo in a statement he personally signed from Ealing, London and made available to both British and Nigerian press, titled ”Confirmation of Comrade Olawale Afolabi as NUPENG General Secretary Will Ignite Vibrant Unionism In Nigeria” reads,

”In the spirit of Comradeship, I heartily salute the excellent administrative drive of the National leadership of Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) for the timely confirmation of Comrade Olawale Afolabi as the Union’s General Secretary.

This is a decision very well thought out, judging from the requisite experience and credentials of the new General Secretary. His track records in the Union indisputably positioned him as a competent hand who would meritoriously handle this new task and advance the policy thrust of the Union to a desirous level.”

The statement continues,

”Making such an individual to be the administrative head of a vibrant and dynamic Union like NUPENG who has fared creditably over the years in the areas of Management, Training/Education, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Negotiation and well stocked with the creation of existing development and launch of viable operations with robust, deep and ingenious ideas clearly showed that the Union is set for fresh goals and achievements.

I strongly believe that with the emergence of this sharp-witted technocrat on board who is firm, thorough, competent, passionate, resilient visionary and intelligent, the sky won’t be the limit for the Union but will serve as a springboard to record fresh milestones.” He stated.

The former Labour Party scribe further emphasized that the new Sheriff will use his ingenuity and wizardry to engender stronger workplace bargaining power and create societal potentiality, and strengthen associational power which could be likened to what was obtained in the days of the Union’s founding fathers.

He said, ”Comrade Afolabi reminds me of the days of Comrade (Chief) Ovie Kokori, Hon (Comrade) Joseph Akinlaja, Comrade Elijah Okugbo (of blessed memory), these are men who made globally recognized indelible achievements in NUPENG that could stand the test of time.

Once again, I have the pleasure to congratulate Comrade Afolabi Olawale on his new appointment and wishing him a successful mission. I make bold to say NUPENG has made an excellent choice based on expertise, experience and talent.” The statement affirmed.
