President Buhari appoints ATBU Professor as new NESREA DG

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Professor Aliyu Jauro as the new Director General/ Chief Executive Officer of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, NESREA.

Prof Jauro takes over from Dr. Lawrence Chidi Anukam whose tenure expired on February 17, 2019, a statement said.

Before his appointment, Professor Jauro was Deputy Director at the National Centre for Petroleum Research and Development at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, (ATBU) Bauchi.

He holds a Bachelor of Tech. Degree in Industrial Chemistry from A.T.B.U Bauchi and MSc and PhD Degrees in Industrial Chemistry from the same University.

Addressing the Management and Staff on assumption of office, the new Director General said: “I am here to move the Agency to the next level. I expect high standard of professionalism, integrity and dedication to duty.”

He promised to operate an open-door policy, stressing that he will bring his wealth of experience to bear in ensuring that NESREA lives up to its mandate.

He commended the acting Director General, Mrs. Miranda Amachree for the achievements recorded in her short period in that capacity.

Earlier, Mrs. Amachree had given the new Director General an insight into the operations of the Agency.

She said the NESREA Act which was amended last year to address some lapses impeding the activities of the Agency had been gazetted.

She also informed the DG that an effort to address staff welfare was yielding the desired results as well.

While performing the official handing over, Mrs. Amachree assured the new Director General that the NESREA management team consists of formidable professionals who are ready and prepared to work with him.

Professor Aliyu Jauro then performed his first official function as new Director-General of NESREA when he received in audience members of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Environment and Habitat who were on oversight function visit.

The Chairman, Honourable Obinna Chidoka seized the opportunity to congratulate the new DG on his appointment and prayed for his success.
