The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has released results of 2019 first diet of West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, Tuesday, in Yaba, Lagos after thirty days conclusion of the examination, with 26.08% obtaining five credits in English Language and General Mathematics.
While announcing the release of the results on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, the Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC, Mr Olu Adenipekun said. ” A total of three thousand one hundred and two candidates representing 26.08% obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects including English Language and General Mathematics. The percentage of candidates in this category in the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2018 – First Series was 17.5%.
The results of Three Hundred and Seventy-Six candidates, representing 3.16% of the total candidature for the examination are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice. The cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate Committee of the Council in due course for consideration. The Committee’s decisions will be communicated to the affected candidates.” He disclosed.
Stressing further, Adenipekun stated, ”Candidates who sat the examination are now free to check the details of their performance on the Council’s results website: www.waecdirect.org. The Result Checker PIN and Serial Number needed by the candidates to check their results online are contained on the Candidate’s Smart Identification Card used during the conduct of the examination.
Finally, Gentlemen of the media, permit me to use this opportunity to commend and thank the staff of the Council, whose sacrifices, dedication and commitment to duty contributed immensely to the successes recorded during the conduct, marking, processing and the release of the results of the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2019 – First Series in Nigeria.”
He added, ”Analysis of the statistics of candidates’ performance in the examination shows that eight thousand seven hundred and eighty-two candidates representing 75.15% obtained credit and above in two subjects; seven thousand three hundred and thirty-two candidates representing 62.74% obtained credit and above in three subjects;
Adenipekun continued, ”Five thousand eight hundred and fifty candidates representing 50.06% obtained credit and above in four subjects; four thousand three hundred and fourteen candidates representing 36.28% obtained credit and above in five subjects.”
It would be recalled that the first edition of the new diet of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates – First Series was successfully conducted in January/February, 2018. A total of 11,721 candidates sat for the first diet in 2018 while for the 2019 diet, 12,202 candidates registered for the Examination.
