One of the critical stakeholders of South West Agenda ’23 (SWAGA’23), Hon. Rotimi Makinde has expressed satisfaction that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu finally heeded the call of the group to throw his hat in the ring and contest the 2023 presidential election.
SWAGA has been known over the years for rooting and praying that Asiwaju Tinubu consent and agree to run for the 2023 presidential election.
It is on record also that many eminent Nigerians most especially the South West leaders including Hon. Rotimi Makinde had intensified their efforts to woo all and sundry with the ultimate goal of making the presidential ambition of the former Governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu come to reality.
Putting all doubts permanently to rest, it was widely reported in both conventional and social media that Asiwaju Tinubu on Monday officially declared his intention to contest the office of the president in the 2023 election.
Makinde noted that his loyalty and support for Asiwaju Tinubu is now redoubled as the former Governor has finally yielded to the passionate call made by SWAGA and other interest groups to run for the 2023 presidential poll. “Asiwaju made us proud” Makinde said.
Continuing, Makinde stated that Yoruba had invested so much in APC, hence, President Buhari must support the region, stressing that Tinubu is the right candidate that has what it takes to become the next president of the country.
Speaking with some selected media executives on Wednesday including the publisher of veracitydesk.com.ng, Mr Emmanuel Ajibulu, Makinde said:
“Tinubu is capable of leading this country to the promised land. And let me also add here that SWAGA’23 has achieved a great milestone by succeeding in convincing our National leader to have his hat thrown in the ring for the 2023 Presidential poll and I have no doubt within me that his candidacy by APC is a done deal by God’s grace.
“There are three regions in this country. We have the Western Region, the Eastern Region and the Northern Region. Every other thing is cosmetic and we are still working under that arrangement. Obasanjo started the presidency for eight years.
Subsequently through the doctrine of necessity, power technically or arguably returned to the East, Goodluck Jonathan and later to the North. When you are talking about zoning, It has to come back to where it started from. It is only a mischievous person that will say it should not come to where it started. I’m not a mischievous person, neither am I being immodest or politically insensitive.”
The Ife born politician added,
“We have to work relentlessly today for our tomorrow and to make Yoruba great tomorrow. Today, we have got a good product in Tinubu. He is intelligent, cerebral, and a builder of competent men across board. And he has been in this system more than three decades having produced many great leaders to his credit. Therefore, we have to work assiduously for him.”
“Only those who cultivate farms, get harvests. We have planted the seed in APC in 2015, it is time for us in the Southwest to reap. It was the Yoruba who largely gave Buhari the chance and presidency in 2015, although our Igbo brothers and sisters in fairness to them also tried their best and of course the north also stood firm for one of them from the region. It would be morally and politically correct within the principle of fairness to give the presidency back to those who gave it to the north in 2015.”
Makinde reiterated that Yoruba should come together as a people that God loves at a time like this so the the opportunity at their disposal will not be lost.
He further pointed out that if Nigerians really want that socio-economic and political development they are so desirous of, they need someone like Tinubu to achieve that, adding that Tinubu will stand for good governance and play the role of a bridge builder for Nigerians in diaspora.
