A Kano State High Court has declared the appointment of four new Emirs by the Kano State Government as null and void.
The court on Wednesday also ordered a return to status quo pending the determination of the substantive suit filed by one Rabiu Salihu Garwzo against the appointment of the emirs.
Recall that Kano Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, while relying on an amendment to the Emirs (Appointment and Deposition) Law, 1984 recently passed by the state assembly, created four new emirates in the state.
He also appointed new emirs for the emirates, namely: Rano, Bichi, Karaye and Gaya.
The newly-appointed emirs are: Emir of Bichi, Aminu Ado Bayero; Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulkadir Gaya; Emir of Karaye, Ibrahim Abubakar II and the Emir of Rano, Tafida Abubakar-Ila.
In a Monday statement, Ganduje’s Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar said that the new Emirs had been presented with their staff of office, the traditional symbol of authority to the emirs.
Ganduje has been accused of executing a personal vendetta against Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II.
