Immediate past Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources Downstream, Hon. Joseph Iranola Akinlaja was among prominent Nigerians who honoured a visiting Director-General of International Labour Organization (ILO), Brother Guy Ryder in Abuja on Thursday, August 1, 2019.
The reception/dinner which had the attendance of National Chairman of ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole was organized by Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and held at the prestigious Transcorp Hilton hotel, FCT, Abuja.
It would be recalled that Oshiomhole was one time National President of NLC, while Akinlaja equally held sway as his Deputy. Both men are known for their astuteness and forthrightness in the trade union struggle.
Ryder is in Abuja for the Global Youth Employment Forum, holding in Abuja and for the first time, outside Geneva, Switzerland.
The Forum is organized by ILO in collaboration with the Federal government of Nigeria.
Ryder will be the second DG of ILO to visit Nigeria, the first of such visit was in 1959 when ILO opened its first office on the African continent in Lagos.
Earlier in the day on Thursday, President Muhammadu Buhari met behind closed doors with the visiting DG.
The meeting started at the president’s office around 3pm. Ryder arrived the Villa with the president of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba and others.
