Labour Party, LP, governorship candidate in weekend’s governorship election in Kwara State, Issa Aremu, has congratulated the winner of the election, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, of All Progressives Congress, APC, saying all Kwarans are winners.
In a result announced by INEC, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of APC polled 331,546 votes to defeat Abdul-Rasaq Abu of PDP who polled 114,754 votes.
LP and APC in Kwara State had entered into a widely popularized alliance on the eve of the poll to consolidate on what they called “the joint victory during the Presidential and National Assembly elections, as well as wrestle power and liberate people of Kwara State from the ruling party, PDP.”
The two parties had agreed to work together on the governorship election to ensure the victory of the candidate of APC on March 9, 2019 governorship election in an arrangement by the governorship candidate of LP and that of APC, at the African Hall, Justice Mustapha Akanbi Foundation Ilorin.
The former governorship candidate of LP urged the governor-elect to form inclusive government with massive participation of women and the youths.
According to him, 2019 Kwara elections assumed special importance because it took place just after the 2019 International women Day, the theme of which is “Balance for Better.”
“There is the need for conscious women participation in governance if they must overcome the problems of double deprivations at work and in larger society”, Aremu who ran a joint ticket with a female deputy said.
He observed that 2019 elections in Kwara are for the liberation of all Kwarans including the outgoing PDP members who he observed were “power fatigued” after 16 years of rule that he claimed to have engendered more poverty than prosperity for the good people of the state. Aremu stated that the Labour Party being an active campaigner in the concluded elections commended the people of Kwara State for keeping faith with democracy despite unfulfilled past promises adding that he was optimistic that the incoming government having emerged through free and fair elections would make a positive difference for the people.
Aremu reaffirms his commitment and that of the Labour Party in Kwara State to abide by the spirit and content of agreement with the APC in the great task of rebuilding Kwara State to the path of prosperity for all adding that it was a long road to restore the leadership role of Kwara state in education, health, industrialization and sports. The Labour Party governorship Candidate commended INEC and security agencies for ensuring a successful gubernatorial election. He called on all contestants to accept the wishes of Kwarans as expressed through the ballot box.
