A former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Peter Ayodele Fayose has declared to run for President in 2023 under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should his party offer him the ticket.
In a terse statement sent to the publisher of veracitydesk.com.ng on Thursday, the PDP chieftain denied endorsing Mr Peter Obi for the number one seat in the land.
He further clarified that he is not canvassing for a South East presidential candidate, adding that he is in agreement with other party’s critical stakeholders that presidential ticket must be zoned to the Southern part of the country.
Read the statement below:
“FAYOSE DEBUNKS ENDORSEMENT
Report credited to me that I endorsed HE Peter Obi for President and zoning of the Presidency to the Southeast is false.
No doubt, I have great respect for Peter Obi as a leader and I respect his aspiration, but at no point did I endorse his presidential ambition or that the presidency be zoned to Southeast.
Rather, my take is that the presidency be zoned to the Southern part of Nigeria.
May I also state clearly that I will be seeking the ticket of the PDP to contest the next presidential election.
Ayo Fayose”
